The miners are going to start running their ads again. This will seriously hurt Labor especially during an election campaign as they will have no rebuttle.

1 Billion in the red centre. Plenty of room, not sure if the technology is ready yet.

Never going to happen. Policies that are dependent on a constant increase in the population of the country, any country, are insane.

They need more population in Australia because we dont have enough people working and paying tax to fund the pensions of the people who are going to be drawing them...

If it stays at 22M this country will be bankrupt and have huge tax - we are already heavily taxed it will go through the roof without a population increase of working age human beings.

That's an argument that logically has no end... following that approach Australia and every other country on the planet, will need to keep increasing its population for ever. It's a policy of the madhouse.

It does have an end - it has two things you have to do , or maybe 3, you have to change the age of the population by encouraging babies, (perhaps that why the internet filter is really being built, to switch off the porn to force couples to err... couple) , you have to increase the population working age immediately (immigration) , and , you have to increase the current contributions to the future pension (by putting Super up to oh, I dunno... 12% ).

Actually Australia does need a larger population just to be able to provide the necessary infrastructure it needs. That doesn't mean the population should be constantly growing.

If I was voting, the "Liberal" Party would come last on my ballot card. That is the only thing for sure, I'd probably vote for Greens and then Labor second. This way I'm voting in order of the party I least dislike. I think Tony Abbott could be even more of a disaster for Australia than Howard was, and that's saying something!!

It cant be. The problem of an aging population not in balance still needs to be tackled.

I for one would not be in favour of a big Australia but would love to know how to solve that issue with a smaller Australia

So, today we see the ALP's climate change policy. Or lack of it. We're going to commit to nothing but appoint a team of scientists to advise and let 150 "randomly" chosen Australians guide Australia's climate change policy decisions for the next decade.

Perhaps this is what Gillard meant by a consultative government. I am astounded by this. One of the most far reaching proposals which will dig deep into the pocket of everyone in the country and we're leaving up to 150 members of the public to be a representative sample of the will of the electorate.

Whilst the Liberals policy is not perfect by any stretch at least they have a one that will meet our nations emissions targets by 2020.

Its a horrendous miscalculation. Government by the lowest common denominator. I can just imagine the 150. Random my ass.

Can you even imagine putting such a long reaching policy and critically important piece of legislation that can affect the country for 50+ years in the hands of the first 150 people you met at the shopping mall as you walked along.

Its almost equivalent to government saying - we dont know so we put our hands up and you guys decide. I hope the LNP crucify them over it.
