Senior Health Care Card
I have now been in Australia for 18 months and loving it. I came on my own on a 143 Contributory Parent Visa, to be with my two children. My daughter sponsored me and had to take out an Assurance of Support which lasts for 10 years. Does this mean that I cannot get a Senior Health Care Card until after 10 years? I thought I could qualify after two years, as this is a concession card and not an income payment. Can anyone advise please. Thank you

Exemptions to the Newly Arrived Resident’s Waiting Period
The Newly Arrived Resident’s Waiting Period may not affect you if you are:
•an Australian citizen, or
•a person who arrived under a refugee or humanitarian program, or
•the holder of certain visa subclasses, or
•the family member of an Australian citizen or long-term resident, or
•the family member of a refugee or humanitarian migrant, or
•you were a family member of a former refugee or humanitarian migrant at the time the former refugee or humanitarian migrant arrived in Australia.
That one may apply to you - worth checking out.
