Default Sending xmas presents to the U.K?

Have just started thinking about xmas and wondered about sending presents back home.

How soon should you send them? Do most reach their destination?

I am not sure about just sending money as this isn't as personal but any advice needed.

Hiya

I went down to our local post office in Berwick yesterday and asked the same question, the answer was all items for sea mail have to be in Sydney by the 6th October. Air mail is the start of December. He advised me to keep all parcels under 2kg in weight to keep the customs forms simplier. Luckily I have bought ours but did feel a twit in Big W buying xmas paper in September !!

Hope that helps

We've bought most of the Christmas pressies already - partly to spread the cost, partly to be ready to send them in time, and partly cos layby started months ago for Christmas.

The trick is buying small volume/weight high-value presents. Nothing worse than paying as much in postage as the item cost. Also try to be Oz specific, why bother sending stuff for twice the price that UKpeople could buy in the high street. Australian Geographic is a good source of suitably Australian gifts (and Ceri if she is ever going to commercialise her wombat droppings gift service).

I'd be keen for thoughts on volume/weight issues , i.e. is it cheaper sending one big parcel for distribution over there or multiple parcels - haven't checked this out myself yet.

I know when our daughter was here she wanted a pair of Huggies, so we will have to see.

Oh no, we only have until 6th Oct to send by sea. We haven't brought anything yet! Is it much more to send my air?

Yes, approximately twice as much

e.g 1.75kg - 2kg by Air (up to 10 days) $50.50, Economy air (up to 4 weeks)$38.50, Sea $26.50

Bix, thought about sending everyone chocolate covered cockroaches this year as a novelty present. Shall I save you one then?

I have bought all my birthday pressies for the UK from Australian Geographic. Mum loved the mouse mat of Aus as she can visualise where we are. There are some great aboriginal prints and I sent my sister a diary for 2005 from there.

Having had three parcels disappear in the space of three years I don't have a great deal of confidence in the regular post service.

I want to get some of those kangaroo scrotum purse things ( though I think that is Australia - The Gift rather than Australian Geographic)
