Sending herbs & spices in the container?

Hi,

A bit of a silly question, but can you pack herbs & spices up if they haven't been opened to go in the container? Can you take anything as long as it's not fresh?

Thanks

Well from watching these border control programmes I would say no. They don't seem to let any plant parts through without a huge fight.

They do have herbs and spices here though so you could just buy new when yo uget here. :)

You might find that customs will want to irradiate it.

Wouldn't think that would be a problem to the herbs and spices - never know the herbs may last longer too :)

Why would you bother. All herbs and spices are easily found here. Give them to a friend.

Why would you bother? Surely they can buy their own. ;)

Just to let anyone else know who's on their way and reading this

when we moved to Perth from Uk last year all of our kitchen boxes were checked by customs/quaratine. So they do check.

Enjoy the packing!

As long as you declare it I doubt there'd be a problem. But would herbs and spices not become stale on a six month sea voyage in a big metal container?

Chuck the spices in the bin and dont have to worry about them.

The only real claret and blue is the Mighty Hammers...!!!!!

Don't do it! As from experience, herbs and spices, depending on what they are, will be destroyed by Australian Quarantine on arrival. Also if packing any other food stuffs, have a look on the label for egg and milk contect of the product. If they are towards the start of the ingredience list, don't pack them as these also will be destroyed.
