Sending gifts to the UK

Hello.
Does anyone on here send gifts to the UK at Xmas?
A parcel under 500 grams via Auspost? Will the recipient have to pay any goods handling or customs costs when receiving items or gifts from Australia.
Item value in $ say $150 to $200.
Thanks for any feedback.

Just found this. For anyone wondering. https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty Customs DutyYou’ll be charged Customs Duty on gifts and other goods sent from outside the EU if they’re above a certain value, unless the duty comes to less than £9.The value includes:
  • the price paid for the goods
  • postage, packaging and insurance
Type and value of goods Customs Duty
Anything under £135 No charge
Gifts worth £135-£630 2.5%, but rates are lower for some goods - call the helpline

We stopped sending presents as we found that even small gifts, certainly under £135, attracted 2 charges. One from customs and the post office made a handling charge.

Make sure you tick GIFT on the customs form, and put a really low value - $20 for example on the form. I always do that, never had anything charged at the UK end. Its what I do on ebay stuff as well, no matter how much they paid for it.

Most stuff now though I buy through Amazon and get it delivered direct
