Selling an imported UK car in Sydney
Hi - I wonder if anyone can offer any pointers on selling a new-ish car in Sydney?
I'm bringing over a 1 year old Jaguar XF & wondered whether there were any good brokers or dealers to use, or whether it's just best to sell privately via www.carsales.com.au/ or similar? It will be fully legitimate with relevant paper trail and full Australian road and mechanical compliance.
thanks in advance,
Paul

If you're bringing it purely to sell it and make megabucks you might want to check out a few threads on the subject. You may change your mind.

Not for that reason, just to buy a different type of car (4x4)

Can I ask what method you are using to bring it in as you need to have owned and used it for a full 12 months, you have had it from new ?

from what I'm told the dealers won't touch it and it'll be worth a fraction of what a "local" one would fetch.

I can see no reason why that would be the case, I see quite a few imports for sale and they don't seem to suffer price wise. Maybe they are seen as being unsuitable for Australian conditions

With a private import a buyer has no history information and no warranty on a car which would probably have a warranty here

There will be someone who will buy it. Just advertise as normal on private car sales.
If it's one year old, then there's not much history to speak of. The sales invoice and a couple of service receipts should be good enough.

I want the larger car to put bikes inside, the Jaguar is useless for this. Have owned it since new, >1 year, transporting it in a sole use container.
Thanks to those that replied constructively.

I don't think you will have any trouble selling it privately. If you take the UK value and add the cost of importing to Australia and convert that into dollars, you'll find that the price may be less than an equivalent Aussie delivered model and you should at least break even.
If it was a Kia, Peugeot or a Toyota you might struggle, but with a Jag should be OK.
Trying to part ex it through a dealer may be an issue, they will give any excuse to knock the value off when buying it and then add it on again when re-selling it, more profit for them that way.

bike racks don't work too well because of the shape
