Try webuyanycar.com or wewillbuyyourcar.com.

I'm thinking of using one of these as they seemed to offer a reasonable price without the hassle of advertising etc and they come and pick up when suits you. I wont be doing it until late June so dont have any practical feedback yet!

Assuming its a standard car (not a classic or anything specialised) then I would start at the dealers / car lots and see what they would offer as a buy-in. This will give you a "bottom" price. You could then use this as a reserve at an auction.

Alot depends on how much the car is worth. If its a 15k car, do you really want that amount in cash at your house, no, ok so now you have the hassle of bankers drafts and waiting for them to clear, plus all the tyre kickers from autotrader if you go that route.

You will get calls from agency's trying to sell you more advertising, calls from dealers, who will say "will you take 8K", when the car is advertised for 12, and some dreamers who just want to come and look, kick the tyres and all that stuff (assuming they bother to turn up).

If your going to go with advertising, perhaps try your local newspaper first, and only arrange visits when there are 2 of you at home.

If you have trusted friends or relatives (who can collect the funds for you after you leave), you might get a deal from a local garage along the lines of this....

You give them the car and agree a bottom price, and a target price. Dealer advertisers, sells and then pays you. This way it does not effect the dealers cash flow, he still gets commission off the finance and you get a better price then just selling direct. Downside is it can take longer.

Did similar recently with my motorbike, was offfered 2500 as a buy-in, agreed to accept 2850, so dealer put in his showroom at 3250, sold it, made £400 and got the finance commission etc and I got my 2850. Took about 6 weeks in all.

Also did ebay. Nice 2 year old Mercedes at the time and got within £600 of what I was advertising it at in the local paper.
Nice bloke from London bought it, although his mates thought he was a bit of an idiot sending thousands of pounds to a bloke in Bradford who was leaving the country in a few days! Anyway, I got rid and he got my pride and joy.

About the same time as we had to get rid.Give it a go on ebay.I can remember it being a lot cheaper than the paper and in effect it's world wide coverage. We put ours on a 10 day listing and the bloke paid within a day (bank deposit)of auction end.All in,gone in under 2 weeks and then had a hire car for the last few days.
Good luck
