Has anyone here gone into Business on their own in Australia? How does it compare to the UK. Any Stories.

Uk, was lax with regualtions worked for a mate plastering and then took up fitting kitchens easy money very easy compared to here and better climate for working in too, working on a roof in 36 degrees yesterday temp inside roof 58, thankfully its raining today, if I worked would be sued by all and sundry.

anything you can make money in seems highly regulated - often with clauses that require you to return to employment. Dept fair trading is a monster.
I considered a setting up a Business Brokerage-the red tape was absurd-and seemed pointless.

I went into my own freelance design business. That is actually quite good. If you have a 2 bed apartment and use one room for working you can claim internet, part of electricity and get of course get tax back on computers ect. The only thing is charging GST for income of over 50K. Some clients dont want to pay it....

Be aware you could be liable for captial gains tax on the portion of the house you are claiming when you come to sell it.

I run a business from home as well, and claim for everything just dont bother with lights etc just not worth it for the amount you can claim back, unless your running something using a hell of a lot of power that is
