Has anyone secured a rental from the UK before they went to OZ. Was it difficult and has anyone got some good tips.

Julie - probably possible but I wouldn't do it.

Unless you already knew the exact location from a previous visit.

While not having something "secured" longer term may be worry for some I would think most people book (or borrow) some sort of temporary accomodation and then sort out longer term housing needs on arrival.

absolutely agree! unless you have visited and know exactly what and where you want to live, then dont do it!

most people book a holiday home for a couple of weeks while you take a good look around. we stayed at the brisbane holiday village cos thought we'd be looking around the redland bay, bris area, didnt like it and ended up 2 hours north at noosa!! plus, a lot of rentals look good at the end of a computer but when you go visit them, they are real dives!

Thanks for your advice.

We will properly book a holiday let for a couple of weeks. The only problem there is 7 of us. The youngest being 3 years old. I just have this fear, we will be homeless. :scared:

Hi, Before we came out here 18 months ago we were advised to just book a short term fully furnished house for a couple of weeks as so many people had bad experiences of booking a 6 month or so rental on the internet and arriving and the house was not as it seemed (filthy etc)

We booked a house for 4 weeks which had everything we needed until our container arrived, we then decided to buy a house, which looking back now, what with the house prices rising was fantastic! Originally our plan was to rent for 6 to 12 months and decide where we wanted to be....

I know of a few people who have booked through Elite Villa Holidays site and have been really happy with the houses and the service, If the houses are not available they even look around for other properties with the availability and your requirements! Cant be bad.

Do a internet search on "Platinum relocations Queensland," for a small fee, having been given certain criteria, they will look at places that fit what you are looking for, visit them to check them out, then sort all the paperwork for you. I would not want to do this for long term accomidation, but i would have thought this would work for accomidation up to six months while you are looking for somewhere to buy.

Wait until you get here. We came out here on holiday 3 times before we emigrated and still ended up somewhere different. We almost rented somewhere online that looked fantastic, it was in what we thought was a good area and absolute beach front. When we actually got here we did a drive by out of curiosity. The house itself was OK but it was surrounded by complete dumps on three sides and the garden had been subdivided so that the back windows looked directly on to a crappy old fibro house.

We stayed in serviced apartments to begin with for a few days then we went into a holiday resort villa for four weeks while we looked for a suitable long term rental. We are so glad we did it that way, we love where we are and can see ourselves staying here for quite sometime.

Yes I'm beginning to agree.

Will are going to rent a Holiday home for a while and then we are going to look to rent for 6 months.

Does anyone have any recommendation's? The areas we are looking for is Runaway bay or anywhere close by.

There are 7 of us, so a three bedroom would be good. But its not until next year. I just like to be well organised.
