Don't know that area too well but it's on the railway from the city to Noarlunga which is the southern terminus of the Trans-Adelaide route. So it will be handy for trains to town etc ... a big plus for employment options and socialising etc...
It is near to Hallett Cove which seems quite nice, not my cup-of-tea because it's suburban and I prefer the countryside. But I think it's a reasonably good area for schools and stuff. It's not to far from shopping at Marion and Noarlunga.
All the south of Adelaide is nice for beaches, whereas in the north they are not so good so I am told, not been up there much.
So, don't know that it is is dodgy or anything ... you can do a lot worse than Seaview Downs I think.

I live in Hallett Cove and love it...we also have the city trains running right through here.
Not so keen on Seaview Downs, more older properties there, but cant comment on lifestyle as i only ever drive through the area on my way to the huge mall at Marion.

Hi PP
Is the beach more sandy at Seaview Downs as I understand it's quite rocky up your way. When you say older houses do you mean run-down older or just not new build style.
Cheers

I wouldnt say rundown, just a bit on the shabby side and a bit tired looking. Of course there'll probably be someone else who totally disagrees!!
I think you have a misconception about Seaview Downs. It is not right on the beach, but set on the hillside across the main Brighton Road which wouldnt be an east walk doen to with kids in tow.
Hallett Cove doesnt have a sandy beach, but to me that is good thing as its a conservation area, and i wouldnt get all my seals and dolphins playing outside my window if there were too many people around
I live at the Marino end of Hallett Cove which means i am probably a 3-4 minute drive to Seacliff...which not only has lovely sandy shallow beaches for the kids, but also the best local pub in town!! .... we often have meet ups there and let the older kids run off to the beach.

Yes I have PP - it's very informative, I use it in conjunction with this BB.
I've seen your photo of the view from your lounge - spectacular!
What's Seacliff like as a town?
Dazzy.

All these suburbs are quite close together Dazzy, one sort of runs into the other. Seacliff is just a small bit at the end of the Brighton esplanade. Its a nice place, but the houses are very expensive because of the close proximity to the beach.
Lucy, the pic is somewhere on the AB site but i have no idea where these days, and i cant woek out how to post pics on there now since its all changed.

Of course, it depends on your budget, but Christies isn't expensive. Let's be honest, it must be one of the cheapest places in the developed world to buy a house that's so close to a reasonably sized city.

Hallett Cove isolated???..LMAO
Tell that to the 8 families i know of from Adelaide Brits who have moved there in the last 6mths!! Yes, it is a housing estate, BUT, its 5mins from Brighton and 10mins from Glenelg, 10 mins from Marion Mall, has direct train link into the city, a beautiful cliff top nature trail (which runs right past my house), conservation park, numerous parks and play areas for kids, its own shopping mall (which is about to be redeveloped with a brand new one), and a good school. Most homes and streets are well kept and cared for too.
In my opinion, Christies beach is on the same par as Seaview Downs as far as housing goes, yet is much further out, and to me that makes it far more isolated that Hallett Cove. We have driven down there several times and apart from some attractive houses on the seafront, the rest of it is grubby and tired, with quite a lot of old and unattractive cheap homes. Some friends of ours went to look at a property down there once and ended up in the middle of a drugs bust in the house next door!! Another couple used the On Arrival Accomodation service when they first arrived in Christies Beach (cheap council house type properties leased to new immigrants short term when they first arrive) The poor woman was so upset she wanted to go home after 2days!! Luckily they have now bought a place in Woodcroft which is lovely.
I know we all have different wants, needs and desires, but i had to redress the balance on this, as i just cannot agree.

Don't set your sights on one area only, when you get to Adelaide have a look at all the areas, for example you might find some suburb in the Adeliade hills
on on the other side of Adelaide to be far better then seaview downs.

Can I suggest that you try Australian Property Monitors' Home Price Guide for some objective information? Go to http://www.homepriceguide.com.au/snapshot/ and you can get demographics and prices for any suburb in Australia.

But Hallett Cove IS on the coast...my house is about 30ft from it!
Christies beach is no nearer "facilities" than HC...even going to the Collonades is roughly the same distance as HC to Marion Mall. I think you are comparing using the main Lonsdale Highway to get anywhere. Theres a couple of very quick shortcuts to Brighton Road, which takes me around 2 minutes from home. Thats why i get to Glenelg in 10 mins (i used to live in Glenelg too)

I was referring to Seaview Downs as the place not on the coast.
I'm sure the original poster will be happy as Larry wherever they go. Good luck to them.
