Default School Years

Hi,

My son is 11 (born in March 2005) and we're looking to be in Australia in the next six months. He has just started year 7 in the UK (1st year of secondary school). Am I right in understanding that year 7 in Australia will start in January 2017 and is part of primary school? He'll therefore not start high school in Aus until Jan 2018?

Is there a way I can find out for definite? (We'll be going to SA if that makes a difference)

Thanks
Dan

I think Grade 7 is first year of high school in all states/territories now. If you get here in six months he'll start grade 7 again.

Yup, that's right. He will be one of the younger kids in grade too. Yr 7 is still primary in SA
