Default School whilst waiting for Visa

Does anybody know if children are allowed to attend school whilst awaiting for their Visa? Thanks.

How are you here now? What sort of visa? Temp Visa holders can be enrolled in schools but you pay full fees. If on a visitor visa then no you can't join school.

I think if you are here on a visitors visa you can actually enrol a child for 12 weeks in some states but you pay full international fees http://www.detinternational.nsw.edu...._enrol_vis.pdf that link has the details and also the form you need to complete

Thanks, the link didn't work, but I imagine it is quite a lot of $$$$$.

My son will be on a Visit Visa, but is entitled to an Australian passport. Does anybody know how long this might take, please?

Thank you.

http://www.detinternational.nsw.edu...._residents.htm Try that one - the other was a link to a pdf and they can be weird, sorry.

If your son is entitled to an Australian passport then he should enter Australia on it, Australians cannot enter on a visa and another country's passport. If he has his Aus passport then education is free otherwise it is approx $300 per week (all depends on his age)

Thanks. That's really helpful. So, it's $230-odd a week, for a maximum of 12 weeks.

I had intended to apply for our Visas during that time. Do you think we would have them by the end of the 12 weeks? Alternatively, we could apply for an Australian passport for him (my husband is Australian). Any idea how long this would take?*

Thanks.

*Apologies if my questions are of the 'how-long-is-a-piece-of-string' variety.

According to the Australian High Commission in London (http://www.uk.embassy.gov.au/lhlh/Pportfees.html) passports are currently taking about 10 days or you can pay for 2 day processing.

As you son is Australian he cannot apply for a visa as Aussie citizens can't hold Aussie visa's so he will have to have an Aussie passport before travelling there and will not have any visa to wait for.
