Default School terms in Brisbane

Hi everyone

WE have a few questions regarding schools in Brisbane

* we was wondering whether children can join a school in Oz at any time or does it have to be at the begining of a term.

* Do the children have to be with you when you go and visit the schools and enroll them. We hope to be going to vaildate our visa's in Jan/Feb 06 (without our children) to look at houses and schools possibly enrolling them if we can.

* Do children start secondary Ed at 11yrs, i have heard somewhere that it's 12.

Thank you Guys.

Children can start anytime throughout a term in State schools, and I would think the same in Private schools too.

Most private schools prefer the child to be with you, so they can assess the suitability of the school. With State schools it isn't important.

Here is a link for QLD State school term dates: http://education.qld.gov.au/public_m...ml#anchor00002

These are the State School term dates from the above website:

2005
Term 1 20 Jan - 24 Mar (9 wks)
Term 2 4 Apr - 17 Jun (11 wks)
Term 3 4 Jul - 9 Sep (10 wks)
Term 4 26 Sep - 9 Dec (11 wks)

Enrolling your child for School

(this relates to Queensland and is from http://education.qld.gov.au/schools/...enrolling.html)

* Preschool: Children must be four years old by the last day of December to attend a state preschool the following January. In certain cases, younger children who have been enrolled in a school in another State or country may be exempted. A child's name can be placed on a waiting list at the local state preschool during the year the child turns three. Preschool waiting lists are opened in March each year. Proof of the child's date of birth, such as a birth certificate, passport or visa, is required at the enrolment interview.

* Primary: To be enrolled in Year 1 in January, children must be five years old by the end of the previous year. Under special circumstances, children may be enrolled at a younger age. Parents may enrol a child in their local primary school by contacting the school directly. For a child entering Year 1, schools require proof of the child's date of birth, such as a birth certificate, passport or visa.

* Secondary: Students are eligible to enter the first year of secondary school, Year 8, after completing seven years of primary education. Parents may enrol a child in their local secondary school by contacting the school directly.

Don't the kids have to come and validate their visas as well?

Cheers,

DagBoy
