Having just enrolled our children today at the local state school I thouht I would share the info they gave us. My sons birthday is on new years eve(the cut off date for school entries) he should by rights be in yr2 here, he was in yr1 in the UK having been in yr R for the first year, anyway the school have enrolled him in yr2 and will assess him to make sure he is at the right stage academically, he will now def be the youngest in his year..so basically seems like it is done on an individual basis and I guess each school is also different.
