Keep in mind that, for NSW, though the cutoff date is quite late (July 31) there are actually very few children who begin school as four year olds, with most parents choosing to keep them back another year if they were turning five anytime from April onwards.

When you say keep them back is this in another child learning like ELC or just a nursery or home with mum/dad?

Actually, it can vary, depending on what you want to do, as pre-school isn't compulsory here in NSW. Most children, however, do attend pre-school for 2 years before starting school. Pre-school attendance can range from 2-4 days per week.

Our youngest turned 4 on 10 July (last year) and the school where her two older sisters were enrolled wanted to see her and assess her before confirming a place for her to start at the beginning of the school year on 1st Feb. She was the youngest in the school last year as most parents (at least here in NSW) keep their children back a year if they are born after April.

My Daughter turns 4 on the 5th of March.

Does this mean she starts full time school in July?

Is pre-school free in Sydney?

Sorry for silly questions its just I can't seem to find the info I need on the net

Your daughter will start full time school at the beginning of the school year which will be end of Jan / beginning of Feb.

Sorry, don't know anything about pre-school and costs - we only arrived 4 months before our youngest started at school so gave her a long holiday!
