Scarborough?
 

Ok so, Although I posted below asking about Dalkeith, OH has now informed me that the company he will be working for is based in Scarborough.

Had a quick look through the internet and it seems to be quite touristy/full of young travellers.

Can anyone please suggest a suburb close to Scarborough that would be good for us? Have a 3 year old daughter, looking for somewhere fairly quiet, low crime with good school. Would prefer quiet and fairly secluded to hustle and bustle city with young travellers and holiday makers (I know im a foreigner too!)

There are a lot of good areas around there, however, they are also some of the most expensive suburbs in Perth with a number of them having a median house price of over $1 million.
Have a look through realestate.com.au to get some ideas

Oh wow, out of budget for us!! Ha ha thank you, another helpful poster suggest Wembley Downs and a couple of other places so will research those today. Thank for your help!

First up, you said your hubbie is a bricklayer? So he will be working all over the Perth metropolitan area surely rather than in Scarborough? Obviously if he has to go in to the Co HQ regularly a northern suburbs location would be best but I would not be restricting yourself to close by.

House prices are coming down here and are yet to bottom out IMO FWIW :-) Definitely rent first and then purchase. Your GBP180K translates to over $400K and will make a nice deposit but would not purchase a house outright unless you move to the outer fringe suburbs and even then, with fees and stamp duty you would be pushing it. You will definitely need a massive mortgage for Dalkeith!

As suggested peruse real estate web sites and see what the prices are like. Use google maps to ascertain the locations relative to Scarborough. If you want inner suburbs (closer to the city but still relatively close to Scarborough), consider Mt Hawthorn, Glendalough, Joondanna, Tuart Hill. Further north, a suburb which is very popular with people from the UK is Joondalup. Duncraig and Karrinyup are also options. None of the foregoing suburbs are crime hot spots and all have good schools.

Thanks Jackie, that's a big help! We've been having a look on real estate.au yeah he will be working all over but the "morning meet" would be Scarborough do didn't want him travelling miles and miles every morning.
Yes, we will definitely look to rent and if we're happy we can then sell our house here in UK which will give us some more money too when we do look to buy.

Wembley Downs will cost more than Scarbrough.

We've got £150,000 to come over with, plus whatever bits we may have saved before then. We want to rent for at least 6-12 months first. If we're happy and settling in ok then we will sell our home here in the UK so will have around another £180,000 to put to deposit to buy.
