Default Savings interest rates

Can anyone better the current BankWest TeleNet Saver offer of 6.8% on investments as low as $1000?

Doubt it, but you will have to be in Oz to get it, or you did when we applied.
Have a look at www.infochoice.com.au for the best rates.

Good site.If your still in the U.K. we opened with Wespac and their rates are not bad.Our Bankwest account is linked to our Westpac Maxi account and the transfers from Bankwest are free.Very good account at 6.8% and reverts back to 6.25% after 12 months.
Good luck

Cheers. What are you getting on the Westpac Maxi account if I may make so bold?

Not a lot!! Keep a minimum balance in there and the Maxi is linked to the Westpac One account for everyday use.As I say,you get one linked account ( with free transfers) from Bankwest, linked to Westpac Maxi with the One account for everyday use. 6.8% interest at Bankwest and $5 a month for the Westpac accounts.

Just to confirm, with the Telenet Saver you need to have an account with an Australian Financial Provider [not sure if it has to explicitly be a bank]. If its not linked to a normal Bankwest account you can only transfer money to and from it via another Australian Bank Account [although you do get internet access to the account to action the outward transfers].

Go to http://www.abetterdeal.com.au for more info. Its perfect for whacking cash into when you transfer from the UK and be set-up online [although you may need to provide identity documents if you are not already a BW account holder].
