Savings?

Hi all! Just a quick question. My OH and I are planning on moving to Melbourne and may not have jobs when we arrive *fingers crossed we will*

In your opinion, how much money would we need to survive for a few months until we found jobs?

Hope you can help.
Thank you

Best,
Ali

Do you both have visas?

Hi Andrew,

We do not have visas yet but hoping to get an independent skilled visa (both of our jobs are on the SOL list, 1st lang.English, experienced and aged between 25-30). We were wondering how much it we would need, excluding visa and travel costs.

Thanks,
Ali

Re: Savings?

Very roughly, basic living with no thrills, per month:-

Apartment rental $2000
Bills (elec and gas) $ 150
Private Healthcare $ 350
Food $ 400

TOTAL $2900/month plus incidental spending

I would say you need around a min of $4000/month just to get by for a basic life until you secure work.

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your guess, really appreciate it :)

We are thinking of just renting a room instead of an apartment and not bothering with a car initially to save money...hopefully that will reduce costs a little.

Thanks again!
Ali
