satnav maps

Hi,
Heading to oz on our recce soon, thought about getting a map pack for or Garmin Nuvi 310 but I think £125 is a bit steep!

Does anybody know where i might be able to down load the maps 'cheaper' anywhere else.

Cheers

I tried to do this on a Garmin that I bought in the UK last year. We stopped over in KL on the way back and I went to a Garmin 'expert' in the Low Yat technology mall. He said he could put Australia and NZ maps on it for about $20. He did but he totally f**ked up the satnav and it is now unusable. So I would recommend not trying to do this on the cheap.

I recently bought a 5" screen Garmin 1490T with a free bonus of lifetime AU and NZ map updates for $229. You can get decent units for a lot less than this. Buy one here.

You can find TomTom maps for a very reasonable (lack of) price if you look around on the web, but I think Garmins are more difficult to do (in my experience at least).

You could pick up a cheap TomTom from eBay, the Australia map is only 134MB and will fit on any TomTom.
