Same sex partners to be recognised for skilled visa purposes
Australia's Minister for Immigration has announced today that same sex partners of skilled migrants and students are to be recognised by Australia for immigration purposes.

That is good news - there was a poster on a couple of weeks back whose friend was wanting to emigrate, hope it cheers them up.

Thank you for all info haven't been on for a while, at the moment 3 out of 4 of our family have got orrible viruses, all centred around throats and ears and aching bones but all with different symptoms. Anyway i will pass on this link to my friend. Thanks Carol |

While this is a good start, it still doesn't negate the fact that same sex couples are not recognised as de facto or married in australian immigration law and still means that same sex couples where one has PR and the other doesn't, have to go through the hassle (and expense) of a second or third visa application.
Nevertheless a good start is half the work. |
