Salary Package things to watch for??
 

After my second telephone interview I have basically been offered a job in Sydney, I am waiting for them to email me through a draft of a contract and salary package...

Could anyone please advise of things to watch out for in salary packages are there any hidden extras which will need to be taken into account??

The things I can salary package are crap. Such as a new car which costs too much, a top of the range mobile phone which costs loads etc.

Some people here have salary packaged utility bills. Now that would be useful.

Check with your employer whether they would charge you an administration fee.

one thing to consider as well is whether the salary is inclusive or exclusive of the 9% superannuation (pension).

I believe this is included in the package from the phone conversation, however he was asking regarding which visa I was coming over on as this could affect tax or what I could be intitled too....:confused:

It's a minimum of 9%. Some employers offer more than this amount,

Hang on - do you mean a salary package or salary packaging - they mean two different things,

Salary packaging is what people in public employment can do where they can avoid paying tax on certain items to make their salary more attractive.

A salary package is usually the base salary including super. Some jobs advertise the basic salary then plus super on top.

Yes, I know some employers offer 14% super. 9% is the minimum required by law, and is the most common.

if you are on a 457 you need to ask about living away from home allowance how much it will be and if it is already included in the salary xx

I will be working on either a 309 or 100 visa so don't know wether i'd get LAFHA
