Default Salaries in Brisbane

I know the cost of living is "meant" to be cheaper in Brisbane than the UK so a lower salary should be OK but can anyone confirm on this?
As an example, earning 40k GBpounds in UK (AUSD 102k), compared to 60k AUSD (24k GBpounds) in Brisbane - would you have the same financial "quality" of life?

Depends where you are in the UK - if you're in southeast England earning £40k, then yes definitely better in Brisbane earning $60k.

But if you are earning £40k in the rest of the UK, the difference is less obvious. However as somebody else has mentioned in another thread, the sunshine, the weather, and the environment would more than make up for it all!

It will also depend on whether you are bringing any money out with you to put towards your house or if you need a mortgage etc.

If your house in England was less than 150 000 pounds you might be unpleasantly surprised by the cost of houses in Brissie. Have a look at

www.realestate.com.au to get an idea of rental and house costs. You can also put in figures and it will tell you what the repayments will be. Mortgages out here are around 6 - 7.5% at the moment, so the payments are higher than in the UK.

We earn about the same as in the uk but dont really notice much of a difference in the price of living here or there. We lived in Birmingham, our house was slightly smaller there (and didnt have a pool surprise, surprise ) but generally I think we probably have about the same amount of disposable income, but we seem to feel better off here, must be the feel good factor
