Sad Question - Is It Worth Bringing A Dryer?
Got shippers in next week and we're really tight for space so trying to reduce our bulk wherever possible.
Have read on here that some people have been told not to take their tumble dryer. Is that true? We're heading to Melbourne.
Are washer/dryers popular in Australia?
cheers

I'm sure I read somewhere that someone took a washer and dryer and after the second use in Aus it died!! (very vague I know - it's early!!)
I'l see if I can find it.....

Hi Gill
There was a similar thread a couple of days ago about washers and dryers.
Really I suppose it depends how good your dryer is, how much you use it and what for. It still rains here (honest it does!!) but if you have space indoors to dry stuff then you may not need one as much.
Personally I brought mine and use it for drying my towels as I cannot stand hard towels. I don't need to rub a layer of skin off every time I shower

Have a look at this site for an idea on what you can buy and what the prices are like.

I don't use a dryer, but then it depends on your preferences etc

Cheers chaps. We really don't use ours too much - maybe only 1 or 2 times every couple of weeks as I have got it into my head that it's expensive to run. It really comes into its own here in the winter when there's no way of getting clothes dry without hogging all the radiators.
Need to give this one some thought as we're REALLY tight for space in our container.
Thanks for the advice

Discussions of washer/dryers on page 5 here:

I know that at places like the Goodguys you can bargain with them too.

Re: Sad Question - Is It Worth Bringing A Dryer?
My experience has been that a lot of people use dryers here, even through the weather it great for drying. No idea why (never asked, and I've used mine twice in a year).
The cost of shipping a dryer is probably more than the cost of buying a new one from somewhere like the Goodguys (I used this to decide to leave my fridge behind).

We brought our dryer and I'm really glad we did. Even though the weather's great for drying the majority of the time, it's great to have for towels, or items that are delicate and you don't want to fade or to avoid having damp stuff hanging around the house.
Also good for kids swimming kit when they present it to you at 8pm at night and expect it dry and back in their bag for 8am the next morning!
Ours, incidently is a 'baby' sized dryer that I bought on-line from Argos and was ridiculed horribly for (Didn't realise it was a baby one when I ordered it!). Perhaps you could consider this? We're a family of 5, but it works for us.
Could you not put your dryer in one of those space bags and shrink it for travel?

Don't bother shipping one, you can buy one here for a few hundred bucks.
Been here 32 months and have never pegged washing out to dry (in fact, have never owned a clothes line, even in UK), I tumble all of it.
Yes, my "Carbon Footprint" must be huge, so if anyone wants to wash 2 loads a day, peg them out, bring them in and iron them, feel free.

I brought my Tumble dryer and Washer and use them everyday. Even the tumble dryer is on all the time because if i hang clothes out they come in all hard with the sun. I like my things soft.

You're in a sub-tropical weather zone tho missus. Bit different down here 3000km closer to the antarctic.
