Rubbish clothes?

Re: Rubbish clothes?
The only good quality clothes I've found for the girls are Seed & Country Road - but I only buy them from the outlets. Even some of the designer brands are poor - I bought some items from BIG (Fiona Scanlan) and they washed terribly and they weren't cheap
So I get a lot from Mini Boden and Ebay UK.
Not too worried about myself - if I want something a bit nicer I go to French Connection.
And don't get me on school shoes It's even difficult to get an attractive pair of Clarks shoes. I found a good shop in Malvern selling Euro brands - but, again, not cheap. I refuse to put my girls in ill-fitting, ugly, hard leather shoes
The best shoes I've bought for them were from the Converse shop in DFO, Spencer Street. Timberland and Tommy Hillfiger have lasted and lasted.

Sorry., I just don't get why people are shopping in Target. They are comparable to Tesco or 'George' from Asda. you can tell they are crap before you even buy them.
And M&S underwear is terrible quality, wears out in no time.

Clothes here are rubbish compared to UK - you only have to wash them a couple of times before they get bobble/lint on them and look like they've been slept in for years.

M&S underwear is great, lasts for ages, very good quality, so I think we will have to agree to disagree
I think the difference is that I have stuff in my wardrobe now, that I’ve had for a few years that I shipped over here, and the quality is still great. Only basic bits, black knitted jumpers, work trousers, office shirts etc and I will be bringing them out this winter again. On the other hand, I have items in my wardrobe that I bought in Australia last year and the only place they’ll be going this year is to the bin, as they haven’t worn well and look like rags.

I would say the quality in Target is pretty much the same as every other Australian clothes shop and trust me I have looked in nearly every one. Target seemed to have some OK looking work clothes so I thought I would try a pair in desperation but I wouldn't bother again.

Re: Rubbish clothes?
I never have any problem with buying good quality stuff. My clothes don't crumple at the first wash, my t-shirts are fine and I have a great selection of work clothes that have (and will) last for years. Favourite shops are David Lawrence, Jigsaw and the like.
I probably pay more than Target prices but if you pay cheap, you get cheap. And please don't hold up Next as an example of good quality merchandise - I've never seen a bigger amount of tat in one place, ever.

Re: Rubbish clothes?
I said that I bought one pair of trousers in Target to try it and my opinion is that it was rubbish.
I have looked in Myers and Country Road. I found a nice pair of trousers in Country Road but they were $300. Now I only wanted them for work and didn't want to spend that amount. In the UK, there are plenty of mid-range shops, M&S, Next, Oasis, Warehouse etc. All good quality for workwear and you don't have to spend a fortune. Here it seems to be cheap tat or expensive, nothing in between so unless you want to spend an absolute fortune you can't really find anything.
I think it will be a discussion that will never be resolved, some people can be happy with the shopping over here, personally for me coming from London, I can't even compare it, I long to be able to walk down Oxford Street or go to Bluewater and be able to see something worth buying. I am counting the weeks until my holiday back to the UK

Re: Rubbish clothes?
Well being male my experience will probably differ, but I would never dream of buying work clothes from Target - I did once many years ago and found the same problems - poorly cut, one wash and the shape goes or they shrink etc etc. Plenty of other decent options for work from places like Country Road or Myer. They may cost a bit more but it's worth it. And surely many people just buy brand names anyway these days which are the same worldwide?
Nice location btw.

You shouldn't have to buy brand names or designer though to be able to get something worth wearing, there is just a huge gap in the market here for decent high street stores which are affordable.
My family in the UK send me over clothes and I can feel the difference as soon as I open the packages, everything just looks so much better quality, and washes perfectly.
I think I will always be discontented with the clothing here, but I can live with that, as long as I get a trip back to the UK every now and then to get some retail therapy
