Default Rubbish.....

I know this should really go on the UK forum, but I think you guys will appreciate it more......

Apparently a Sussex town has had an idea to "brighton" up its rubbish collection scheme......nice big bins in the street for everyone to put their rubbish bags in! Brighton isn't really wheelie-bin suitable, too many bedsits and flats that open right onto the street, by the way.

Having looked through this website, I now have yet another good reason to add to the list of why I left.......

One of the good things about Adelaide, is the lack of litter strewn across the streets like it is in many parts of UK. Also no dog poop on pavements!!!

I've noticed being back in the UK how much dog crap there is on the pavements - it's vile.

I mentioned it to hubby that this was never a problem in Melbourne....but then we realised we never actually saw that many dogs in the city. What I did hate about Melbourne pavements was the amount of fag butts everywhere. Although less messy, fag butts do more harm to the planet than dog poo! I've also noticed in the Uk that the streets are paved with chewing gum!!

The refuse system in Oz is fantatsic - all the different collections for recyling are great. What did infuriate me tho was when they didn't turn up on their nominated day, and then the rubbish really did pile up (but not as bad as the pic above).

They're reducing the size of the wheelie bins in Melbourne to encourage people to separate and recycle more. Great idea. We don't have kerbside recysling where we are in the UK and the local facilities seem to be emptied about once every 3 months and are always overflowing with rubbish.
