Default Routine Check Up's For Babiesin QLD?

Is there an Australian alternative for a health visitor? Back in the UK I used to take my baby to a health visitor drop in session at our local surgery where they would weigh him and make sure he was ok etc.
Also they would do the routine checks at certain ages to check development.

Is there anywhere in the Brisbane area that offers anything like this? As a first time mum I'm not sure on all the procedures but I would like to get him weighed regularly.

Thanks

There used to be clinics set up all over Brisbane where you could take your baby for weigh-in's and checkups by a nurse. I'm pretty sure they were all closed down about six years ago. Most major pharmacies have scales and stuff where you can weigh your baby and I think they have a nurse come in one day a week. Pop in to one and ask the question. Also most large General Practices have a nurse who administers immunisation and should be able to answer any questions you have.

Chemists

I wondered for ages about this - but basically each chemist has a day that a nurse is there to do weigh ins etc.

Also there will be a community health in your area that does the same. As a first time mum I suggest calling community health and asking them about a mums and bubs group on your area.

In your red book (if you dont have one - ask the dr or community health for one), you record all your weights, vaccines and all that stuff and can track your babies weight. They are like the koran and some drs get very miffed when you tell them that you have liberated yourself from it and didnt want to be shackled to it any more.

How old is your baby? Its exciting isnt it and although I didnt with the second 2 and I didnt think I would be into it, I think that the first time, sharing your babies progress with other women who are equally interested in the colour of your babies poo is something not to be missed. You can compare notes, learn how to do things they dont teach you at school and get a bit of a social network for your baby to socialise in before they get to childcare/school.

If you need anything at any time, pm me or catch me on facebook.
