Hi all

Anyone done this on the way to Oz recently, via America, and if so how much with whom and would it be possible to ski in NZ in July

Not sure of price now, but check on BA or Qantas website foor their RTW flights. Or you can use the Star Alliance RTW fare.

I did mine from Cairns to Auckland to Hawaii to LA then broke the journey and flew out from Las Vegas to New Orleans to Heathrow - never used the return via Singapore to Sydney.

It was good value, not alot more than a basic return fare.

Also opodo is a good website for multistop trips.

We did it. STA Travel. www.statravel.co.uk

We flew Heathrow to New York, drove overland to LA in an RV (took 7 weeks), we then flew from LA to Fiji for a wonderful two weeks of sun and sand, then from Fiji to Auckland for four weeks of sightseeing and skiing, then from Auckland to Melbourne (we continued our journey back to the UK via China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia). It cost GPB4000 for 4 tickets (2 adults and 2 kids) we could have got it a lot cheaper but we chose to add on China and Cambodia to the itinerary.

PS the entire trip took 7 months and cost in the region of GBP30k

PPS: July is the best month for skiing, although navigating the S. Island by car can sometimes be a bit hazardous when the snow falls heavily etc..

We tried one like this... London, Iceland, New York, Canada, LA, Brazil, Argentina, Kenya, South Africa, Maldives, Vietnam, Cambodia, New Zeland, Sydney and Perth and it cost £2400 each, taking 3 months.

But throw on accomodation and living costs and I can soon see how you'd get up to £30K as mentioned above:eek:

Worth a serious consideration though;)

We were thinking of something taking in about a month, Heathrow, Miami,
Fiji, Brisbane, Perth, with a return back to UK for about 9 months time for a holiday and then back again. I will let you know if we find something good.

We took 5 weeks via the US and Mexico. The great advantage is you get 46kg baggage allowance each that way round.

There is a fare called the Great Escapade which may suit you. Its a bit cheaper than the OneWorld or StarAlliance RTW tickets because there are less airline options, just Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic & Air New Zealand - so all good airlines. Only thing is you'd have to make your own way from Miami to the West Coast to pick up a flight to Fiji - I'm sure there is probably a low cost option available for that.

I've booked through Travelmood for 14 years now. Their service is so good, especially when there are problems, I have given up caring whether they are the cheapest any more.

There are several, and the cost is about £100 - £150.

We did it via Cancun with AA/Mexicana.

We went via the US - and benefitted from 2 x 64 kg luggage allowance all the way through.

Ticket cost us about £1100 from memory - but that included a return to London (which we ended up not using).

LHR - NYC, PHL - ORD, ORD, SFO, SFO - HNL, HNL - NAN (with a touchdown on Christmas Island - EXCELLENT photo of the terminal!), NAN - SYD, SYD - MEL.

Fantastic Trip and a brilliant way to start a new life downunder.

we had the removal people out yesterday and got a cd for a site called www.movingPLANET.net
On that site emirates are doing an emmigrating deal where if you book one way and have an unvalidated visa and don't leave any of the airports on the way you will get a baggage allowance of 50kgs!!!!! Thats the one for us...
