Rough idea
We are thinking of shipping the family car over with other essentials, the cost of this would it be more than buying simular car average miles nothing special plus new kitchen goods etc?
The price of good second hand cars are expensive ain't they? Are Holdens anygood?
Or do we just bring our 2006 ford galaxy over shes lovely
We think buying new here would be cheaper, plus shipping, against start up cost once there - is that correct?

I'm shipping mine only because it would cost double in Oz for the same car with more mileage.
See what it would cost in $$$$ for the same thing and add the shipping costs and tax etc.. which will add up.
www.drive.com.au
Our is costing £1670 for roll-on roll-off to brisbane. Then the other expenses when we arrive.

Re: Rough idea
My car would cost more in shipping costs than the actual value of the car
My car has done 125,000 miles

Yes Jon, but what would it cost you to replace your car once you get to Oz? That's the important bit.
We're seriously thinking of taking our BMW 5 Series. It's high mileage, but really lovely with all the toys & of course, we know it's history. Not sure yet if financially it would work out, but we're veering towards taking it, just for the peace of mind

A new start in a new country needs a new car. It will cost to replace the car of course. But paying a few thousand to get a rusty old car to Australia which could fail badly at any moment just isn't going to happen. I would rather put that money towards something that isn't in such bad shape.

Not really. The latest Commodore is not bad but all previous models are shite.
Most Holdens are now built in Korea anyway - the Commodore is the only Australian built model. Holden is also an American, not Australian, company.
I wouldn't buy one.

The only place our car will be heading is the scrap yard. The cost of running the car isn't viable any more. When the cost of a service is about the same value as the car you know it is just about time to part company. Rust flashes have started to show up as well.

Thanks for replies, as anyone had a good experience with international removals and just how easy is the transfer of goods? Anyone got a good referal for us to look into, the webs full of sites, and we thought who better to ask than people who have been there done it, so to speak

For the car shipping Ro Ro we are using http://www.autoshippers.co.uk/ They are actually shipit.co.uk and do house hold stuff as well.
For house container we are using John Mason. Hasn't happened yet, so can't comment on how good they actually are.

Re: Rough idea
We used a 40ft container, first 20ft for household goods, and then back half for wife's MX5.
Remember to consider the costs of a hire car, whilst you wait for yours to arrive. I recall it cost us around $6000 for all the australian costs.
Still better than selling in UK and buying here, particularly with current exchange rate.
Don't forget that you need an import permit for your car.
