Why on earth would you want a Rolex? I bought one years ago (an Oyster I think it was called) and it was the worst timekeeper I've ever owned. It lost about a minute a month - I needed it for second accuracy - and after a couple of years i sent it to Rolex for servicing. It was a lot worse after that!
Quartz gives far better timekeeping than cogs.

like you say, if your buying it for accurate time keepimg then you can buy a £10 casio that will keep excellent time, I would prefere to marval at the craftsmanship that as gone into a rolex.
I own a quality timepiece now and it is a certified chronometre, it is accurate to within swiss specs as per certification as are all rolex watches, furthermore mechanical movements are affected by tempreture changes so they work within set tollerances. + or - so many seconds over a given period.
ALL rolexs are certified cronometres

I find most watches - even the midrange- too dressy/'gay' or too vulgar or 'wannabe' and find the expensive watches do provide the look and functionality - toughness, shock resistance and water proofing. A deep divers watch with at least a 200m rating indicates I can dive. I just synchronise it at the station every few weeks. I might get a good copy of a Rolex submariner for dinner parties one day(!) for a change...you get some good quartz copies that are waterproof now.

I'd agree that quartz is better - for time keeping my Omega loses time but there is nothing like a decent Swiz watch - I'd had my Seamaster - poor man's Rolex Submariner - 9 years and the construction is bullet proof-and I can't scratch it.

Its chunky, hard as nails, plain and an Omega. Perfect simplicity.

I got my watch free from the dealership when I took a car out for a test drive. It says "Hyundai" on it. Had it for about 3 years and have only changed the battery twice. Keeps perfect time and goes with everything I own.
