Return Ticket or Not?
 

Hi All,

Just wondering how many of ye bought or are intending to buy a return ticket? Damien and I are split on this one. I would like to have the option of coming home for a holiday within the first year and half and see a return ticket as beneficial in that sense. Love Australia or hate we have said that we will give it 3 years at a minimum so the return ticket would be purely for a holiday to catch up with the family. Damien thinks its ridiculous and has no plans to come home for the first few years. His ideas of being in Australia are to holiday in Asia etc. Any thoughts?

seeing as they are pretty much the same price, might as well get a return so you dont have to buy the ticket to get back if an emergency crops up

Dont bother buying a return Mairead,the word on the streets of Derry is that the gov is going to close Cork in a few years:rofl::p

buy one way cos if your are definately gonna give it 3 years, and do go back to UK for whatever reason then you are gonna want to come back to oz again so might as well buy a single. And if u do want a holiday buy a return from oz.
We bought one way but going via san francisco and new zealand and it was £595 whereas return was over £900 so from our point of view- and i dont plan on going back to uk- a one way makes sense which this post probably dont!!

I'd vote for a return - they dont cost that much more and you can get undated returns or keep on extending them. My son actually got a half decent credit on his return half when he went to UK for his gap year and never returned. You never know when you might need it.

yeah but my point being if they do need to go to england then they are going to want to come back to oz so might as well save money initially and buy a return if/when necessary

I thought if you booked a return you couldnt get the xtra baggage allowance.

Thats what I thought, I'm sure I remember people saying the baggage allowance was only on a one way ticket with an unvalidated visa.

Thanks for the replies. I think a return ticket is the way to go. I understand you cant get the extra baggage allowance but maybe with a little extra persuasion and a sob story here or there it could be possible.

I agree, even if you do come back to the UK soonish you are going to need 3 flights in all so might as well save the money initially and then buy a return from Oz to UK if you do want to come back.

We booked 3 one way got xtra baggage 1 return no xtra baggage and yes they have to be unvalidated.
