Wink Retirement requirments

A very close family friend would like to retire to Australia.

He is not sure of the age, money or health requirements. Before he looks into it in depth could anyone offer any advise please.

Should he use a migration agent or is the visa process easy enough without using one?

Thanks Sarah & Russell

Sarah,

There has been a thread in the last few days from Alan Collett that contains a link explaining the changes to the retirement visa which I think are from 1st January, it may be worth your friend getting in touch with someone tomorrow to see whether the changes affect their eligibility. I beleive they relate to the financial conditions.

Good luck

Sarah,

Have a look at these two weblinks:
http://www.gomatilda.com/news/article.cfm?articleid=287
http://www.australia.org.uk/VTI/HTML/410_ret.html

Please send me a PM or email if your family friend wants to progress a Retirement visa application tomorrow (Monday) in view of the new financial requirements (I am in the UK at present).

Best wishes.

I'd certainly advise checking out the links from Alan. However, I don't think there is a retirement visa, as such, if you're referring to permanent retirement. I looked into this a while back for my brother (whose wife may have a good family case for a visa, on the face of it) and, as far as I can tell, a so-called retirement visa only allows an initial stay of 4 years, with a possible 4 year extension. The lengths of stay may have changed but I don't think that there is a visa that allows a permanent retirement.
