Retirees bemoan cost of aged care
Read some thread on the forum concerning the cost of age care in the UK so this is what Australia can offer.
A national meeting of independent retirees in Perth has raised concern about the high cost of residential aged care.
The Association of Independent Retirees says some of its members are being charged hundreds of thousands of dollars in bonds, because there is no cap on prices.
Association president Joan Heard says increases in stamp duty also affect retired people who are moving to smaller homes.
"A lot of our people are moving into smaller accommodation so they're still going to pay almost the same as they do on their original home," he said.
"Often it's $12,000 to $20,000 that you're paying in stamp duty and there's also GST on it."
