Default Restrictions on setting up business?

Are there any restrictions on forming/running your own business if you get to Oz on a skilled workers visa?

If you have a permanent skilled visa, not subject to employer sponsorship or other conditions, then no issues from a visa point of view.

However there may be restrictions/regulations depending on what you want to do and the State/Territory you are in.

Nope - we did just that!

But as JAJ pointed out you'd need to check out what you want to do with your State guidelines and rules.

Down here in Victoria you have to register your business and they check the name to make sure another business doesn't have one similar and that the business name reflects the business subject. You get your ABN and tax file number for the business (which is linked to your personal tax if sole or partner trader) and away you go!

Even if you contract as well might be useful to have yourself registered as a business for extra tax incentives etc.

Good luck!
