Default Residency definition for transferring pensions?

Hi

The housing market locally here is looking bad at the moment and houses are not selling. Consequently its looking like we shall have to validate our visas before finally making the move to Australia.

This raises a question in relation to pension transfers. The aim is to complete the transfers within 6 months of becoming resident. Does validating the visa and then returning to the UK start the clock start ticking? If not at what stage does the timing start and what is the definition of the start of residency in this case?

Is it the same as tax residency as I am aware of some of the definitions applied for tax residency.

I would appreciate any response from people who have been in this position.

Best Regards
