hi we are mountain creek about 6 mins from mooloolaba on the lovely sunshine coast . we were going to settle nearer brisbane after the filming was over as we have friends there but we loved it here soooooooo much & really wanted to be nr the ocean so its nice & quick for kev to get boat in ,not just that we all wanted it .
we are on an etate with the best neighbours who also has boat & good mate down rd ,was a bit unsure about it as havnt lived on estate in yrs & like space etc but also didnt really want to be on own as its harder to make friends , didnt want lots of land as u only have to look after it & we just want to have a good time at weekends now , sort of been there done it .
anyway hope its been of help & remember thats only my personal opinion.
good luck xx debs xx

Great to hear your update, always nice to know how peoples lives have progressed you've seen on TV.

I think all I watched before we left were programmes about Oz (as we were going), house doctor etc (as we were doing our house up to sell), Baby channel (as I was having one), and Home and Away (just so I could keep seeing some sun).

Good luck with house training the puppy.... a friend of ours took their dog to a doggie breakfast the other day, apparently people with dogs go meet up so the dogs can socialise over breakie !!

Hi

I remember seeing the programme, in fact it was the programme that really changed my mind. My husband has always been on about moving to Australia (for about 20 years) and I never really gave it much thought. I was always worried about finding somewhere to live and getting jobs, but after watching your programme; it just looked like it wasn't as stressful as I imagined.

We decided not to go for the Gold Coast or Perth, instead we are going inland in the State of Victoria, to Bendigo north of Melbourne. My husband, Kev, is being state nominated as a motor mechanic. Maybe when we have lived in Australia for a few years and the kids are settled and grown up we might move to a warmer part of Oz, who knows?

Anyway, thanks for the insight into how people cope with 'the move', I really enjoyed the programmes and am now always on the lookout for other relocation programmes!

LOL, all of this applies to me too apart from the baby one as I have been there and done that. Obviously havent watched enough house doctor programmes yet as still trying to see my house oh and dont watch home and away but love neighbours.

Debs,

Can I ask how Kev got into Aircon work ?

I would imagine that with the climate, qualified aircon engineers would be in demand. I'm in I.T. and job prospects don't look too good.

Like many in I.T. I may change careers when I move over and as I'm a hands-on type of guy something along the lines of aircon\electrical\plumbing or mechanic would suit me. At least if your in one of those trades you won't be outsourced !!!

Just wanted to know what training was available and how long Kev took to get qualified, etc ?

hi hazel, glad watching our programme changed your mind , we havnt any regrets just wish we'd done it sooner , think we had more stress in the last 3 weeks b4 leaving, i still havnt looked at all the tapes yet but i think we came across pretty normal , so maybe a bit boring as there wasnt any big rows , think kev just nagged the boys to keep the tv guys happy ] about getting jobs but me being mum felt they needed more time to settle , i mean even kev wasnt that fussed in looking was enjoying being in the holiday mode .i dont think its that easy for everyone & our boys were olde so understood more i think we were just very lucky & alway positive ,
anyway good luck xx debs . .

kev is still in aircon & really enjoys it , think he likes the hrs more & to think he was a gm of a smash repair centre most his working life , he genrally stolls in about 4 in the arov & somtime earlier & no saturday , he has never had one second regret, ok young louis now 18 , can go to pubs & clubs now as they are very strict here [which is good ] having time of his life spending wages as fast as he earns , passed his test first go bought a car which looks like a monster truck [pretty cheap] but gets him around , he is still instaling aircon with kev's subbie. but he likes it if they only have half days work so he can hit the beach etc, becoming a bit to much like the youg aussie boys im afraid , as some of u know he is planning to go back to uk with some aussie friends & also go see family in spain etc , what with i hear u say , well yes he hasnt much money saved & is hoping to sell car , we want him to wait untill later this yr once we get our citzenship , but can u tell the little bugger -no , anyway like someone eles said its all in the plan but hope it wont take place yet. all in all he's a good kid . now for nick coming up 22 . he took his driving test after louis as was never bothered back home but soon got to know that he would need to drive here , was so sick with worry that day in case he failed but he also passed first go [unlike me back home took 3 ok maybe 4 ]
the written test wasnt 2 bad boys got it 2rd time , kev first . ok it took me 3 . anyway nick has got a car , well i thought louis's was a monster but nick's take the lot its that bloody high i need a hitch up . as for work im very proud of him he has continued with his cabinet making & is doing great really makes some beautiful furniture, if any of u r brisbane way they have a shop in the vally called sac & lane they have pic's of the person who made the furniture & someone said that nic pic was on most ,must go have look for myself . thankfully he has no plans to take off . why the hell louis want to leave this great place beats me . i would rather go round oz first , but i think he wants to play the host for his aussie mates . anyway watch this space .
now me -- well im still enjoying being at home & really dont get bored as there is always somthing to do , some might think im a lazy cow as so many ask me if i work , im happy to be here & doing the wife & mum thing . love being here for boys ,kev , kev bought me a lovrly little puppy which i called poppy she is a maltese so she is like a baby at the mo & keeps me busy , she even has a baby sitter !!!!!! spoilt little thing , she goes off to my friend hazel's who i think loves her as much as me .
we have been so luckly so far & really cant see things changing , kev & i have no plans to go back even for a hol , we have had loads of visitors this past 18 months which has been great , laura was here for 6 months so that was nice for louis , but have now decided to just be friends , one lot were a nightmare visitors from hell , they wernt really good friends but we thought we say yes to them coming to much to say about what happened but put it this way they wont be welcome back .
had last friends [best ] here in feb & we all went upto cairns ,well port douglas really did the reef again & had a fab time , also went camping for the first time on the beach at double island what a laugh we had , should be going again for easter . also went back to fraser last oct with other friends i really love it there, its great having so many nice place which are not to far away .
i have made some good friends from this site & 2 lots are actually renting on this estate now so we have a good time with them , another has moved to jimbumba i think its called , spelling may be wrong but south of brisbane .
anyway we all know we made the right choice by settling here & doing the show was a great help . we still keep in touch with our director & researcher .
well sorry so much for being brief , thats just the tip of the iceburge hope its not bored u 2 much , feel free to comment good or bad and any help i can give i will be happy to .
thanks for all who has asked about us .
debs , kev, nick ,louis & poppy xxxxxxxxxxxx

hi .
think im getting a bit worried now as so many have said that we are one of the reasons you are coming !!!!!!!!!!!! i keep thinking im going to have our door bashed down if things dont work out . ha ha , really im sooooooooo happy that lots of you feel that way . we never thought people would take so much notice of it . i keep trying to think of something negative to tell you all --

"now having a think" 10 mins later .
well been sitting here for a while thinking - ok 1- apart from still missing my best mates who have all been over , [was hoping they may move but lots of them dont have the guts or skills which is a shame ] & we will most certainly not go back in a hurry .

2- the boys 18 & nr 22 as we live nr mooloolaba with lots of great bars etc i think they go out to much [not a good reason i guess ]

3- kev was pissed off as last weekend was to windy to take the boat out fishing .
4- im not that keen on the busy roads as i hadnt even driven on a moterway back home [yes it will always be home ].
5- no sorry cant think of anything at mo .

but im sure things really didnt go that smothly its just that ive forgotten .
xx debs xx

Hi!

Read this thread on day you posted it, tried to reply but it was blocked - now know why! Anyway -

I was only thinking a few days back - wonder how the Reeve family are doing!
Was gonna try and send you a PM!

Great to read your post - glad you are all still ok and enjoying your life in OZ, we can 'ditto' that - we love it here! Especially the sun and swimming pool!! Had rain over the last few days in Cairns due to 'cyclone INGRID', but still managed to get a swim in! Keeping fit! (trying anyway)!! Well here I go again cause the water is glistening in the sun today and I cant resist any longer!

Take care
