Question Request for more medical info for Adhd son?

Hi Guys,
As of this morning we were informed that DIMIA were requesting more medical information for our son who has A,D,H,D.(Attention deficit hyperactive disorder)
Included in our application was his Doc report,Specialist report & what ever the panel doc report said.
So what more info could they possibly be after?
The strange thing is hubby has to go back to the panel doc who done our meds for her to querie what else dimia want,The panel doc only knows what we told her about Andrews condition so why has the request not been made for Andrews specialist who has a better backgound picture of him?
I am totally confused Has anybody else been in this position?
Thanks,
Donna.

Hi Donna

I think DIMIA have contacted wrong doc personally, I don't know if this is a matter of course. Have DIMIA asked panel doc to get in touch with Andrew's specialist or just requested more info from her?? I agree about the specialist having more knowledge that's a given. Can you not get in touch with you're agent to ask what the specifics of the request are?

Chin up these things are sent to test us.

Hi Walla,
Dimia sent paperwork to our agent, agent sending it to us(will recieve it tomorrow morn i hope) & hubby to take the sealed envelope to our panel doc, where she will open it & all will be revealed?
Seemingly the info requested is to be from the panel doc.
I suppose it will all be clearer in a couple of days, just wondered if anybody else had been through the same kinda thing?
Thanx for your reply,
Donna.

No, but watching with interest, as our boys are dx. ASD - which shouldn't be a problem and they're not on meds, etc, etc. but can be very similar to ADHD (and can be considered to come under the same 'umbrella' of SEN).

But sending you good vibes for a successful outcome!

sorry can't help on your immediate issue but just wanted to point out this.
My best friend in Brissie's son is ADHD and on ritalin (not sure if i spelt that right). The drug is not covered my medicare and costs her approx $50 per month. Sorry if I am the bad news person, my child is diabetic and have found I will also have to pay for things that i am not used to paying for in the UK.
Hope things go well

[Forgot to add that she has applied for a 'care allowance' for he son, can't remember what it was but was resonable. I am pretty sure it is income related though.

That would certainly help with the costs involved(i recieve a carers allowance for Andrew,i wonder if its similar to that? or is it solely for help with the p/script costs?
Thanks anyway,i will look into it

Hi Donna,
Not only are Ritalin your sanity they are Andrew's chance at having somewhere near a normal life. Good luck with the extra stuff they need, I'm sure it's something really silly they forgot to do.
Cyber hugs and some Karma on its way to you and yours.
Hugs

Donna,

The problem with Ritalin is that its not on the Pharmacuetical Benefits Scheme (that subsidises the medications). Private health insurance will cover part of the cost of the scripts if you have the right level of cover (although they may make you serve a waiting period). The only other alternative is to try him on Dexamphetamine which is on the PBS, but it isnt available as a long acting medication yet (unless you get it compounded, which costs money, see the viscious circle here? ) .

The carers allowance is a small fortnightly payment, its assessed on how "disabled" the child is for want of a better way to describe it & how much the disability affects the amount of extra care needed. The advantage of it is that the child becomes eligible for a health care card which entitles them to cheap prescriptions for any drugs on the PBS (I think its currently about $3.80/script?).

There is also carer payment, but ADHD isnt considered to be a serious enough condition to be eligible (its a full weekly allowance designed for those who have to give up work to look after a disabled child/adult).

Sorry I cant help with any info on the doctors report saga, but I hope this helps anyway. Good luck.

Hi Mrs Dagboy,
From what i can remember it was yourself who alerted me to the fact that i would have to pay for Andrews medication
I dont have a problem with paying for it & the thought of unsettling his life to start him on new medication purely for the sake of maybe saving a few $ just isnt worth it in the long run.
When we do eventually get there! i will apply for whats available & see where it takes us.
Thankyou very much for the info on the payments
Donna.
