Default Rental Pool Rules?

Another ask of the community please:
Is there a rule saying that a pool should be totally fenced off for rental purposes or are the self closing back doors enough?
We feel that the latter is out dated and to be honest an unsafe practice, i only ask as we have been looking at different areas of late to maybe do a last rental in an area we finally decide to purchase in, but we want a pool this time and having two smaller children we find it hard to believe that the old rule still applies so to speak?
Anyone.

It still applies sadly. You can call the shire you are renting in to come and do an inspection once you get a rental. They could rule that it needs to be fenced if you nag enough but this isn't going to make you popular with your landlord.

Hi again Deb, unfortunately there is a difference in the regulations for new pools (which all must have correct fencing) and pools built before 2001. There are also some differences between local council areas. More info here: http://www.buildingcommission.wa.gov..._Barriers.aspx. Personally speaking, I wouldn't want to be living somewhere without the proper fencing, not just for your kids, but also for any visitors. There's all sorts of everyday rules to follow as well, eg never propping the gate open, and never leaving nearby something that could be used as a step.
