Default Rent put up by $100p/w..advice please..

We've been in fully furnished accomodation in Brisbane for the past 18months. Our 6 monthly lease is due for renewal at the end of July and we have been told that our rent has gone from $480p/wk to $580p/wk. It seems like such a huge increase.....can they do that? I guess anything is possible but it seems such a huge jump.

It would be best to get advice from the Rental Tenancies Authority www.rta.qld.gov.au . It does seem that it is excessive and as you have only a couple of weeks to do anything about it, I would contact them straight away.

Will contact that address for advice (thanks for that). We're renting a two bed/two bath fully furnished unit with a double garage space.

Just looked at the RTA site and it seems they can increase rent with a months written notice but they don't specify by how much. It seems that $100 per week is so excessive. Will look at it all tomorrow after a night's sleep. Looks like days off will be spent trudging around the estate agents!
