Budget by far, also get $5/day of for booking online.

Don't know who e-bookers (now carbookers) uses in Brisbane but Pollyana found a car for her friend to use while he was over here from Budget.

Anyway try.....

http://www.idealrentalcars.com.au/

This is what the web site says:

Car Rental in Brisbane, hire a car for $35 per day, unlimited Klms for a Magna Sedan 2.6 ltr, Auto Air Steer 5 seats Radio/Cass

Supplying rental and hire vehicles for SE Queensland, and we are situated only 3 Klms from Brisbane Airport.

Never used them myself though.

remember to watch out for the airport surcharge, which for some companies is a %age of overall rental (it is for Budget). In this isntance, may be far cheaper to pick up car in city than airport, or get an airport rental for one day and swap it in the city next day.

Also, insurance excess - Budget charge something like $14/day to reduce the excess from $2750 to $275. Over a month that's a lot of money. If you get an Oz domestic travel policy you can get insurance excess cover included in the policy - I paid $120 for a 2 week travel insurance poicy (for 2 people) that included $3000 car excess, so I didn't need to pay Budget $14/day. Travel insurance was with www.suresave.com.au
Good luck

If you want cheapest there are some rent a wreck joints around. Someone from work rented a bright yellow 70s falcon. I am sure it was for less than $20 a day but who knows what the reliability was like.

Other option is to buy a cheap runabout and when you go back you could arrange for someone here to sell it for you or store it for you until you come back here permanently. Good idea to go to a dealer that is RACQ approved so that you can have a backup if you have problems with it.

Membership of RACQ is only $54/year(cheaper if you get insurance with them)and you can get rego for 6 months or 12 months. If you add up the cost of rental for the time you are here and the time when you arrive permanently, it would probably be a better idea for you.

Used this system last year when I went to UK to see Pollyana, worked out far cheaper.

Cheers

Doesn't matter who you go with you don't want to be hammered with $3K bill for hitting a roo. Get the extra insurance is my advice. Europcar are pretty good although if it's not a new car your after then some pikey companies are offering old bombs...

Personally if I was here for a month I'd buy a $500 car and take out RAA and chance it. If you can sell it at the backpackers when you leave you have saved about $1000 !!!
