Renewing British Passport
We need to renew our son's passport as he will soon be 5 and we are planning a trip back to the UK. But what do you do about
Note 6 -Section 8 - Countersignature.
http://centralcontent.fco.gov.uk/res.../form-c2-notes
As we have not been here two years how do we get around this clause. Or do we have to send forms back to the UK, which would be a nightmare. Really dont want to send such documentation back to the UK.
Or can we renew at the British Consult in Melbourne (as in visit it, and apply directly there).
Anyone done this before.
Cheers.

Hi
Unfortunately you can't do it in person, you can drop it off and collect it in Canberra but not just wait whilst it is done. So you have to do the old postal thing and wait!
The countersigning thing is a real pain but you can get someone on the list to do it if they haven't known you two years but you have to state why - so haven't been in the country 2 years would be the answer!
We've just had to go through all this again for our citizenship and 3 years on we still have no friends in those occupations who are citizens yet (note to self: get more useful friends!) although we have a number of clients in those professions so we have to ask them! However, no one was available so we got our optician to do it in the end.
So you could ask your doctor, optician, dentist etc.
Cheers

Re: Renewing British Passport
We have just renewed out UK passport..... what about the RRV?
Do we need a new stamp in the new passport?
Do we carry the old passport with us?
Has the new passport have the RRV electronically embeded?
Thanks
Neil.

Go to your nearest immigration office and get the visa transferred otherwise it will mess up your airline booking with different passport numbers. You can just take the old passport but be prepared for a lengthy wait to check-in when you come back to Oz!
