The best advice you can get is bring all you can bar the telly and video , starting out again is bloody expensive.

The man from Pickfords (better than Del Monte) came round yesterday. I was fully expecting a quote for a standard 20ft container, with insurance at 2.5 to 3%.
However, he was very thorough, went through various options (we've categoriised our stuff 3 ways: Probable, posssible and definitely no way) and costs. Seems like if we take all the "probables" and most of the "possibles" we'll still have a little room over. Can I sent the wife steerage?
As for insurance, you can do it on an item by item basis - so we'll only insure the stuff that's very expensive to replace (mainly the "probables") within the consignment. That way, if it ends up at the bottom of the Pacific, or on someone else's low loader, we'll get back enough to cover the vital things
I'll get other quotes, but from what I've heard so far, Pickfords is looking odds on favorite.

No contest. Doree Bonner. Have used both - you won't have any regrets with DB. Professional service both hemispheres - they used Grace Bros in Oz.

Pickfords coming to quote May 21st and PSS May 22nd. John Masons came today, very experienced guy.
Doree Bonner favourite at the moments but quotes all still in the post, so we'll wait and see.
Asked about sending forward items and this seems no problem. Mr Mover...Is there a weight/size restriction on this?
They only need 2/3 weeks notice apparently so decision can wait till they've all been.
Useful thread this!!!
Cheers

Thanks for your comments.
Can you be a bit more specific about why there's no contest, please ?

Were going over on a buisness vesa for initially 2 years but we may apply for pr once there.
We will be living in rented furnished accomodation.
Would people still sugest taking all our belongings? If so can I ask how muck people have been quoted and approx how long do they take to arrive?
thanks

They quote between 8 and 10 weeks shipping and the prices appear to be between £2,990 up to £4,300 for a 20 ft private container (all to yourself) This is covering door to door and paperwork with australian port BUT NOT customs and immigration charges for their inspection - and posible cleaning Insurance charges go from 1.5% to 4% of the value It appears you have to barter or choose the one that offers lower insurance costs. Good luck
