removals

Hi everyone

Does anyone have any experience good or bad of PSS International Removers. They have given us the best quote so far, but any info would help us decide!!

Thanks Vicki

Vicki,

I used PSS (5 years ago) and all the stuff arrived intact but the delivery time was
way too optimistic, we were left for a couple of months with no belongings.
Multiple phone calls to the office had no effect, i reckon they are cheapest
because they use the cheapest routes to Australia and therefore your belongings are
liable to be left behind as more profitable cargo gets priority.

also, they assured me that the price was 'nothing more to pay' - unfortunately I
tried explaining that to the Australian customs and quarantine when they presented a
charge to release the goods. I cant remember exactly what the charge was for.

How much was the charge and do you know if this is a standard charge that is levied
irrespective of the transportation company? I ask because some people are not in a
great hurry to have their stuff delivered and therefore it is worthwhile using a
cheaper firm.

Cheers

Have you tried Britannia. They have been bar far the best in quote and service for us. UK to Brisbane.
We are going to be using them in august as long as all goes well with the visa in the next couple of weeks.
A friend has recently used them and highly recommended them.
good luck with your move.

We've just had 2 quotes from Pickfords and John Mason. Both about the same (1900 quid-ish for 500 cubic feet - ie half a container)

Why do I get the feeling that we're being taken for a ride again? (See our prevous estate agent rant)

Re: removals

We just returned to Melbourne from the UK and we used Pickfords. I would
whole-heartedly recommend them! At the initial quote we found them a bit higher, we
called them and told them so, they readjusted their quote and came in much closer to
the mark. The service was impeccable and didn't stop in the UK. The unpacking crew
was great and they will come back to your house to pick up any packing materials for
things you unpack yourself. All along the way they have kept in touch and checked
back to be sure the service was up to par. Interestingly enough, the company we were
working with stored and packed our stuff with Grace Brothers in Aus. and I wouldn't
wish them on ANYBODY! Bloody over-priced, lots of extra hidden costs, took four of
them to do the same work it took two Pickfords workers to do and it took them longer
to do it to boot! And don't get me started on all the damage Grace Bros. managed to
inflict on our good! (How DO you managed to snap the top off an outdoor cast iron
table for gods-sake???!!??) Can you tell I'm still peeved? "stone7"
