I've been reading for some time the threads in this forum and very rarely someone would ask about the costs of removal.

Even if it's unlikely that a new comer in Oz would look again on this questions, I dare to ask:

1) what removal costs were (an estimation )
2) does the authorities allow taking with you all your belongings without additional tax paid (customs duty; VAT,...)? I am interested in taking my car with me there and I could not find the tax information on the official sites.
3) If tax is paid , how much is the customs duty for cars?

I would be thankful for any information related to the removal costs.

Hi Catalina.

Info about duty and GST payable on importing a car into Australia can be found at
http://www.customs.gov.au/bizlink/im...otor/index.htm

Don't forget the cost of insurance, and the shipping - it can all add up to a
big number.

Most of the shipping companies should be able to help you work out the cost of
importing your car. If you need names of shipping companies let me know where you
are, and I should be able to put you in contact with a couple of shippers.

Good luck.

Hi,

My girlfriend paid only USD1300 for a container pick up from home in Belgium and
delivered to Sydney Port. If you don't have too much stuff, you save big money by
packing it yourself, and the driver will give you a hand.

If you are establishing permanent residence, you are exempt from duty on items over
12 months old except cars basically. The info is on the customs site.

Hi Daniel.

I don't know of any specific shippers in Canada, but you could do worse than look at
the following two sites:

http://www.omnimoving.com www.fidi.com/

They are two organisations representing international shippers, and I believe you can
search for shippers by geographical location.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your replies. I will come again on the subject if I will have new information myself.

Alan, I live now in Cyprus. So, I could leave from Limassol or Larnaca ports.

Catalina, it depends very much on where you're moving from and how much you're
taking. We're shipping a 40 foot hi-cube container from the UK, and it's costing very
roughly 7000 Pounds + insurance (which is around
2.5% to 3% of the value of your goods).

You don't have to pay duty provided everything's over 12 months old and has
been used.

Sorry, can't help re the car. I thought there was info on one of the websites about
it, though. Try Australian Customs: www.customs.gov.au

Nick
