What does this expression McMansion mean? Quite a few people use it on this site, invariably those in Oz, but I'm none the wiser. It does however seem to be a term of derision (?)

This is a rather extreme example but I'd define a McMansion as a big house built on the cheap, often with a tin roof. There are loads of them over here.

Right, 'gotcha'. Is the Mc a reference to Scottish, as in the stereotypical penny pincher?

No, I think it's with reference to the McDonalds restaurants that all look the same.

Was it just me or was the programme also not giving away which suburbs were being looked at?

What did you all think then? Must admit I was a bit disappointed... unlike the other programmes, you didn't get to see much scenary etc. and I didn't like the houses that much! The third, I thought, was quite tacky. Those columns would be the first thing to go... bet they were structural though!
Anyway, better sort out me ankle biter

You're right they didn't mention suburbs but I checked out the ITV website and found out:
Property 1 was in Darch
Property 2 was in Carramar
Property 3 was in Madelay
Thought Shirley was a bit of a pain, didn't like the sink near the windows in the kitchen, the red bricks, walk in robes too small, utility room too near kitchen (well where would it be?).
Wasn't particularly impressed.

Yeah your right ! there was no reference to where they went at all ! I know it was near Hillarys in the northern suberbs, because ive been there a few times and reconised it !
I also thought the prices were quite steep. ( bit worried about that as we were hoping to get something a bit more affordable around this area)
I have sent a message to him and asked where his new house is, so i will let you know if he replys !
