Default Remaining life of a passport

Dear everyone,

Most countries insist that the passports of travellers should be valid for atleast six months, prior to the date of travel.

What about Australia?

Should it have a validity of six months or one year.

Thanks all

Not sure but I think it is 1 year, however my advice would be to call your travel agent and ask them they are always up to date

I was in the same situation and started a thread about 3 weeks ago. I have an Australian and a UK passport and my UK passport was due to expire in October. We are travelling to Oz in July so I wondered too about the validity of my UK passport. In short it should have 6 months validity but you can renew your UK passport and it will expire 10 years from the date of your current one. So, I renewed my passport through the Post Office, I paid a little extra for a 2 week service with secure return of new passport and it came back within 10 days. I think it cost me £51 in total. You can pay extra and get it even faster. The good thing is that my new passport will expire in October 2014 rather than May 2014 because they give you the 'credit' remaining on your old passport.

So why bother NOT renewing your passport? The only reason to not do so would be if you were flying within a week or 10 days and didn't want to run the risk of your new passport not coming.

Australia is pretty quick in renewing passports, so I'd go ahead in doing it. If yo uwere na American passport holder I'd set aside 6-10 weeks

Just confirming OT's experince - I also had to renew my passport before I went to oz last Nov. (it was due to expire in Feb. ) I also went to a main PO and paid the extra for fast servive and it arrrived within 2 weeks. Easy.
