Relocation Expenses - Tax Implications
The good news is I've managed to blag a maximum of $10k worth of relocation expenses even though we were coming anyway
Oppo in Oz informs me that the ATO may want their pound of flesh out of this
Is this true if the expenses are based on receipted amounts or only if my employer gives me $10k cash and says spend that on relocation?
cheers

$20k to spend on furniture, or
$5k to spend on local furniture/white goods and they relocated all my own furniture and household goods.
We took the latter and when I arrived they credited $5k to my account to spend as I wished on items for the house. All I had to do was produce receipts for my Payroll team at the end of the year for Fringe Benefit purposes (I think).
I never had any reductions from tax based on that 5k.
For your relocation as long as you can show receipts whcih add up to 10k or more you will be fine. Is this to include all your flights and removals? Its not a lot if it is but as you were moving anyway then 'ta very much don't mind if I do'! Good luck in the move, we need some more ex matelots over here to increase the common sense pool!!

well, I was given 2 options:
$20k to spend on furniture, or
$5k to spend on local furniture/white goods and they relocated all my own furniture and household goods.
