Question Relocating To Australia

Hello everyone! I'm new kid on the block. I'm thinking of moving to Australia from UK. I have so far secured my working holiday visa as this will enable me to visit and take on jobs to see if the place is for me.

I was just wondering if anyone out there can be of help. I have a degree in Oil and Gas with a 2/3 years working experience in the industry. My question is that: will I be a suitable candidate for oil companies? And where is the best place to go in Australia with my expertise - is it Perth, Brisbane or Queensland?

How easy is it for me to get a job and in the end will it be possible to get a company to sponsor me for a permanent job?

All ideas and suggestions are welcome

Thanks in advance.

Yes. Brush up on your geography. Brisbane is the capital of Queensland.

From what I can gather getting into a mining job can be very hard and is often down to knowing the right people, many companies are cutting back due to the global slowdown.
Maybe worth contacting companies directly and seeing what they say or when you get here speak to them in person.

If you've got a WHV and no ties why not just come over for an adventure and while you're here make enquiries about work? You could try out all the big mining states. I think we will see a slowdown here because of China, but I suppose there will always be vacancies for specialists and people who just get plain old fashioned lucky. Plus that way you could skip the northern hemisphere winter for a bit.
