Default Relief / temporary teaching in Queensland

My girlfriend and I are on a 417 working holiday visa. We are currently in Sydney and will be moving to Queensland for 3 - 4 months in June.

My partner is a secondary school teacher and specialises in geography. She has about 3 and a half years of experience.

In the 3 months we have been in NSW she has had precisely no luck in finding anything whatsoever, not even 1 day relief at a school despite having the necessary paperwork sorted before we arrived and applying to 30 schools in Sydney directly.

What is the situation like in Queensland? We are moving to Brisbane as that is where I will find work. Here in NSW she has had to get work in a cafe which isn't the reason we came (we are here to holiday and look at the potential of staying longer).

Any advice on whether the situation is better for relief / temp work or not would be most welcome!

Thanks for that, does anyone have any experience with the availability of relief and temporary work in the Brisbane area?

If she hasn't already, she may want to apply/speak to agencies like Randstad and the Catholic Education Office as well as the state.

Employers are a bit sceptical of 457ers because they have a reputation for flaking and disappearing at no notice, unfortunately.

Does anyone have any advice on the best way to find relief work in schools around Brisbane?

I don't know if you have seen any posts by Jen1977, she is a teacher in QLD and found work by pounding the streets, she went round schools to personally drop off her CV and introduce herself.

My husband found work by volunteering at the primary school that my daughter attended, recommended by fellow volunteers for a TA position at the senior school, then after working as a TA, got a temp teaching job, then finally permanent. He's science - supposedly in great demand, but had no joy out of QLD Ed - Brisbane is all about who you know (not just for teaching, also in IT where I work). Lots of competition for city teaching positions, much less as you go remote.
