Registering with a Doctor

Arrived in Adelaide 2 weeks ago with my aussie husband. Done the rounds of medicare, bank, driving licence, centrelink, ATO etc etc.

Just wondering - should I be registering with a doctor? Not sure if its like the UK where you have to register at a local doctors practice. (you'd think hubbie would know the answer - but he just looked at me blankly!!)

Thanks

I didnt bother till i needed one. I usually can get an appointment the next day. You can register at any one you like and change if you want later - you just need to fill out the registration forms and if you have any uk records you can give it to them when you first go.

Re: Registering with a Doctor

I do not know about Adelaide but I do know there are areas in Melbourne and some country towns in Victoria where its difficult to get on a doctors list.

My mother has to go to my doctor because where she moved to the doctors are not taking any new patients.

We do have a shortage of GP's and the further out one lives the less doctors there are around.
