Regional cities
I was wondering how people find some of Australia's regional cities.
We hear a lot about the state capital cities but I'm interested to hear about people's experiences in other areas.
What are job opportunities like in your area?
What facilities are there?
What's the weather like?
How about cost of living?

Re: Regional cities
Kapri - are you wondering about a particular State? It would vary so much?
Likewise jobs? Any particular area?
We live near (ish) Murray Bridge and Mt Gambier - both are reasonable but very much depend on what you're looking for??? Personally I'd liken them (very generally) much like living near the likes of Peterborough or Bedford at home - only smaller.

Higher bogan count and the people are more obese.
The ugliness of the women is directly proportional to the distance from the CBD of the nearest state capital - fact.

What facilities are there? Not as good as Sydney.
What's the weather like? Better than Sydney.
How about cost of living? Cheaper than Sydney.
Any use?

Job opportunities - generally speaking, worse than state capital cities.
facilities - generally worse. For example, limited choice of shops, restaurants, entertainment.
Weather - for regional cities that are inland, hotter in summer and colder in winter than nearest state capital.
Cost of living - cheaper than living in the heart of a state capital, yet more expensive than living 10km to 50km from one. However this is offset by cheaper housing costs.
Here is a list of Australian cities. They are extremely diverse in terms of climate, industry, demographics, population size etc.

Re: Regional cities
Cairns -job opps currently fairly crap.
Weather currently awesome.
Cost of day to day living high due to transport costs, limited choice etc but house prices much better than Brisbane. (rents too)
Activities - plenty to do but if you want culture or like to see big bands etc forget it.
Big selling point is lack of traffic compared to the big cities.

Re: Regional cities
I live in the regional city of Chumbawumba aka Toowoomba....
Job opportunities - For me as a teacher, it's been great, I've only been out of work a handful of days since I started teaching here a year ago! Though in saying that they seem to love the Irish accent so that might've gone in my favour with lots of the schools lol
Weather - We're not known as 'The Fridge on the Ridge' for nothing lol
Cost of living - cheaper than major cities....
We're not here by choice, we were posted here with the Aussie Army, what's missing for me is the beach, but hey ho, for our first home in Australia it's generally been quite good!
